Shaheed
Sayyed Abbas al-Musawi
Shaheed Sayyed Abbas al-Musawi, Secretary General of
Hezbollah was born in Bekaa Valley of Lebanon in 1952. In
Najaf he studied under great teachers particularly Great
Scholar Ayatollah Baqir al-Sadr, for whom he had special
affection. After invasion of Lebanon by Israel in 1983
which resulted in massacres of Muslims, destruction of
houses and forced migration of thousands of shias in
south, Syed Abbas along with his wife, started religious
schools as well as several programs for the economic and
social uplift of shias. He also started motivating young
people to resist against the brutal Zionist occupation of
Lebanon, especially south. Syed Abbas was greatly inspired
by Imam Khomeini (ra) and with his guidance organized the
Islamic resistance and he was chosen as the secretary
general of Hezbollah in 1991. However, he couldn't serve
the oppressed masses of Lebanon for long as on February
16th, 1992, he was martyred together with his wife and son
Yasir by missiles fired by Israeli helicopters. The legacy
of martyr Syed Abbas are the Hezbollah and the Islamic
Resistance that were victorious in May, 2000 when they
forced Israel out of Lebanon.
